ROUTE guide

ROUTE guide

Not racing, but still want to experience the Trans Balkan? You’re not alone. Every year, we receive countless requests from riders who want to take on the route outside of the official race — on their own terms, at their own pace.

To make this easier (and to stop drowning in emails), we’ve created a complete Adventure Package. It includes everything you need to ride the route with confidence: detailed GPX tracks, our Adventure Manual with up-to-date info on trail conditions, resupply points, water availability, road works and closures, plus practical advice on when and how to tackle the Balkans.

We offer two options:

Digital Package — 50 € — CURRENTLY NOT AVAILABLE

You’ll receive the Adventure Manual (digital) and the GPX file of the full route.

Bundle Package — 100 €

You’ll receive the digital Adventure Manual and GPX file, plus a physical package to collect at the start of your ride: a printed Adventure Manual, a musette (light shopping bag), and a TBR t-shirt.

Why purchase?

Because this isn’t just a line on a map. Riding across the Balkans requires preparation, local knowledge, and respect for the terrain and its people. The Adventure Manual pulls together everything we’ve learned from scouting, racing, and supporting riders — so you can focus on the ride, not the guesswork.

Do I need to join the race to ride the route?

Short answer: no. The Adventure Guide is made for riders who want to take on the Trans Balkan outside of the race. You can ride it at your own pace, in your own time, without being part of the official event.

Can I ride only part of the route?

Yes. The GPX covers the full Trans Balkan route, but you’re free to ride it in sections. Many riders choose to focus on one country or one highlight area rather than the entire distance.

Will the GPX and the Manual be updated if conditions change?

The manual and GPX are up to date at the time of purchase, but we do not provide updates afterward. Always be prepared for changing conditions on the ground — that’s part of the adventure.

Do I need insurance or permits?

You will need a valid passport or ID, and in some cases a visa. Check the requirements for your country when traveling in the EU and in Europe outside the Schengen area. Make sure your documents are valid for at least six months after your trip.

How is this different form just dowloading a GPX I found online?

GPX routes you find online are not checked, not approved by us, and in some cases can be wrong — or even dangerous, as certain areas of the Balkans still include old minefields. The Adventure Guide gives you a safe, curated, and tested route, backed by the knowledge we’ve built through years of scouting and racing. It’s not just a line on a map: it’s the real Trans Balkan experience, with detailed information you won’t find anywhere else.

Can I get the bundle shipped instead of collecting it?

Yes, we can ship the bundle, but shipping costs will be charged and calculated based on your country.

Is the Adventure Guide refundable if I change my mind?

Once purchased, the Adventure Guide is non-refundable.

Delivery time

Please keep in mind that we are a small cycling club, not Amazon. We handle everything ourselves, so depending on our workload and whether we’re in the area, it may take up to a week (sometimes two) to prepare or send your bundle. Plan ahead, and we’ll make sure it’s ready for your adventure.
